ABPS is converting its written examinations to computer-based testing (CBT). This type of testing will permit you to select a test center fairly close to your work or home location. These will be held in centers located throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. The actual test dates have not yet been established.

The fee for CBT examinations will be $300 more than the current fees for the paper-and-pencil examination (see schedule of certification fees). The additional cost should be more than offset by the savings in reduced travel costs, travel time, hotel expenses, and time off from work.

The current plans are for the Certification examination to be administered as a paper-pencil examination for the last time on September 25, 2008. The administration on December 6, 2007 will be in Atlanta, Georgia. The administrations on April 3, 2008, and September 25, 2008, are expected to be in Tampa, Florida.

ORAL EXAMINATION DATES

You do not submit an application for the Oral examinations, just the fee. Oral examinations are typically administered on Saturday, and sometimes on Sunday. Examinees are not permitted to take both the written and oral examinations during the same administration. Oral examinations are not required for every specialty.
